ContactMonkey's OpenAI AddOn helps you create, edit, and translate email content directly in the Email Builder.
What You Can Do With AI
Write new content – Generate email copy from scratch based on your prompts, including specific tone, length, and subject matter.
Edit existing content – Revise tone, fix spelling and grammar, summarize long text, or rewrite in different voices (active/passive, first/third person).
Translate content – Convert your email into multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Korean, and many more.
Prerequisites
Before using AI features, make sure you're comfortable with the Email Builder. Click here for the basics.
Note: The AI assistant is available to all ContactMonkey users by default. If you don't see this feature, your organization may have disabled it due to compliance requirements.
Accessing the AI Writing Assistant
- Select a Paragraph or Title content block in your email while it's open in the Email Builder
- Click Write with AI in the properties menu on the right
You're ready to start using AI!

Writing Content From Scratch
The AI assistant works best when you provide clear, specific instructions. Tell it what to write, how long it should be, and what tone to use.
Example Prompts:
- "Write 2 paragraphs about our new employee benefits program in a friendly, conversational tone"
- "Create an invitation for a leadership town hall meeting on quarterly results. Keep it under 150 words and use a professional tone"
- "Generate an announcement about our office renovation. Make it enthusiastic and brief"
Steps:
- In the AI text field, enter your prompt with as much detail as possible
- Review the generated content
- Edit as needed to match your voice and ensure accuracy
Important: Always review and edit AI-generated content. The assistant creates a strong first draft, but you should refine it to match your organization's voice and verify that all information is accurate.
Editing and Revising Content
After generating content, you can ask the AI to revise it using follow-up prompts.
Example Revision Prompts:
- "Fix spelling mistakes"
- "Change the tone to be more formal"
- "Make this message appropriate for senior leadership"
- "Summarize this in 3 sentences"
- "Cut this down to 250 words"
- "Rewrite in active voice"
- "Change this to first person"
- "Make this sound less robotic"
You can continue entering prompts until you're satisfied with the result.
Translating Content
Create your email in your primary language, then use AI to translate it for multilingual audiences. Click here for more information on multi-language emails.
Translation Prompt Example:

The AI will provide translations for each language you specify.
Best Practices
Be specific with your prompts – Include desired length (number of words or paragraphs), tone (formal, casual, enthusiastic), and any specific points to cover.
Always proofread – AI-generated content can contain factual errors or awkward phrasing. Review everything before sending.
Add your personal touch – Generic AI content is easy to spot. Customize the output to reflect your organization's voice and culture.
Use AI as a starting point – Think of AI as a writing assistant, not a replacement. Use it to overcome writer's block and speed up content creation, but add your own expertise and personality.
Fact-check important information – The AI pulls from internet sources that may not always be accurate. Verify dates, statistics, names, and other critical details.

What version of OpenAI does ContactMonkey use?
We use the GPT-4o-mini model.
Does OpenAI train its models on your data?
No. ContactMonkey uses the OpenAI API, which does not use your data for model training unless you explicitly opt in.
