Tailoring your emails to what your readers engage with is important. Click Maps show what links your readers are clicking on within your emails, making it easier to know where to put the most important pieces of your email and how to get eyes on what matters.
Click Maps provide an heat map-style visualization of link clicks within your emails. You'll gain quick insight into where your readers are the most active, what calls to action (CTAs) work best, and more.

Getting Started
Many marketing tools out there have heat maps. Heat maps provide visualization of where readers are clicking within content such as emails and webpages. Similar to a heat map, ContactMonkey's Click Maps provide visual feedback into what links your readers are clicking on within your emails.
This data excludes surveys, anchor links, and event links.
Click Maps are available for anyone sending through Gmail, Office 365, or Outlook on the Web (OWA). At this time, it is not available to Comm Add-In users. Click Maps will not be affected by which tracking type you select.
Click Maps are available for sent emails only, and you will only be able to view Click Maps for emails you have permission to view.
View A Click Map
You can view a Click Map for any email sent through the ContactMonkey platform immediately once the email has been sent. Keep in mind that you'll need to have permission to view any email that you may wish to view a Click Map for.
To view a Click Map for a sent email, follow these steps:
-
- Sign in to your ContactMonkey dashboard
- Select Emails in the navigation along the top of the page
- Open the Sent emails tab in the sub-navigation under Email Library.
- Click on the email you want to view data for
- Select Click Maps in the tabs underneath the email title, between Data Overview and Segmented Stats
- Sign in to your ContactMonkey dashboard
Once you've located the Click Map, you'll see tooltips within the click map by hovering above all links, redirects, and linked images in the email. Tooltips can be clicked and will redirect to the URL.
Clicking on either the tool-tip icon or the collapsed modal should expand the tool-tip description, highlighting:
-
- Total clicks
- Percentage of overall clicks
- The URL
- Number of unique link clicks
Important Note
Click Maps will only be available for emails sent after the feature was released to you, at the end of June 2023. If the email was created before this time, Click Map will be grayed out and a tooltip saying "Click Map is unavailable for this campaign." will be visible.
Apply Filters To A Click Map
Within a Click Map, you can select if you want to see specific ranges of data. The filters you can choose are bucketed into the proportion of clicks.
The filter options will be:
-
- >20%
- >10 - 20%
- >5 - 10%
- >0% - 5%
- 0%
To apply a filter to a Click Map, follow these steps:
-
- Sign in to your ContactMonkey dashboard
- Select Emails in the navigation along the top of the page
- Open the Sent tab in the sub-navigation under Email Library.
- Click on the email you wish to view a Click Map for
- Select Click Maps in the tabs underneath the email title, between Data Overview and Segmented Stats
- Under Click Breakdown, toggle on and off which percentages of clicks you would like to see
- Sign in to your ContactMonkey dashboard
This is useful to learn about what does or doesn’t catch your reader's attention by hiding links that don’t perform well.
View Best Performing Links
Along with Click Maps, you can use Best Performing Links to analyze your link performance reporting within individual emails.
