Understanding Rounded Corners and Transparency
JPG files do not support transparency. When you round corners on a JPG, the image editor deletes the pixel data in those corners. Since JPG requires every pixel to have a color value, the empty corner spaces are filled with a default color—usually black or white.
Option 1: Convert to PNG (Recommended)
PNG files support transparency through an "Alpha Channel," which allows pixels to be 100% transparent. This is the standard solution for rounded corners and logos.
- Open your JPG in an editing tool (Photoshop, GIMP, Canva, or similar)
- Apply your rounded corners
- Export or Save As PNG
- Ensure "Transparency" is enabled in the export settings
- Upload the PNG to ContactMonkey
Option 2: Match the Background Color
If you must use JPG format (for smaller file sizes), make the corners "disappear" by matching them to your email background.
- Check your email background color in the Email Builder settings
- In your image editor, set the corner fill color to match this background
- The corners will blend seamlessly with your email, creating the appearance of rounded corners
Result: The image remains a rectangle, but the matched corners make it look rounded to viewers.
Apply Advanced Effects
Text, Shapes, and Stickers support additional styling effects beyond their basic appearance.
To add advanced effects:

+button after adding your text, shape, or sticker - Click the gear icon

File Format Best Practices
Use PNG for:
- Logos and graphics with transparency
- Images with rounded corners
- Graphics requiring crisp edges
Use JPG for:
- Photographs
- Images with many colors
- When file size needs to be minimized
The image editor preserves your original file while creating an edited version for your email. Your source file remains unchanged.
