Custom URL Tracking (Premium Feature)

What is Custom URL Tracking?

Custom URL tracking replaces ContactMonkey's default tracking domains with your own branded subdomain in all email links. Instead of links starting with contactmonkey.com or regional variants, they'll use your organization's domain (e.g., comm.yourcompany.com).

Prerequisites:

• Enterprise plan subscription
• Subdomain ready for configuration
• IT/Security team available for DNS setup

Why Use Custom URL Tracking?

Brand Consistency

Maintain your organization's branding throughout email communications. Links appear as internal resources rather than third-party tracking URLs.

Simplified Security Management

• Keep your existing security allowlists without adding ContactMonkey domains
• Eliminate the need to update security policies across Microsoft Defender, Mimecast, Proofpoint, or SafeLinks
• Reduce "ghost clicks" from security scanning tools that inflate campaign statistics

Note: You'll still need to add your custom URL subdomain to your organization's allowlist.

How It Works

Before Custom URL

When you send a tracked email, ContactMonkey adds tracking parameters to your links:

After Custom URL

The same tracking functionality uses your branded subdomain:

https://comm.yourcompany.com/api/v1/tracker?cm_session=a99999a9-aa99-999a-99a9-a9999aa9a9a9&cs=9a99aa99-a99a-9aaa-aaaa-a99aaaaa99aa&cm_destination=https://www.google.com/

All tracking features remain fully functional—only the domain changes.

Subdomain Requirements

Your custom URL must be a subdomain of your organization's main domain.

Examples:

• Main domain: example.com
• Valid subdomains: newsletters.example.com, internalcomms.example.com, cm.example.com

Regional Considerations

ContactMonkey uses different tracking domains based on your data hosting region. If your organization sends emails from multiple regions, you may need custom URL entries for each.
