When sending emails to moderated distribution lists, your tracking method determines whether moderation rules are enforced.
How Moderation Works with Different Tracking Types
- Individual/Anonymous Tracking: Moderation rules are not respected. Emails bypass moderation and are delivered directly to all recipients immediately.
- Overall Tracking: Moderation rules are respected. Emails follow your organization's standard moderation workflow and require approval before delivery.
Why This Happens
When you use Individual or Anonymous tracking, ContactMonkey expands the distribution list and sends individual emails to each recipient. As such, your mail server treats them as direct messages and bypasses moderation rules.
With Overall tracking, ContactMonkey sends a single email to the distribution list itself. Your mail server recognizes this as a message sent to a moderated list and applies the appropriate moderation rules.
Important Considerations
- Organizations with strict moderation requirements should use Overall tracking when sending to moderated distribution lists
- Email at Scale users should confirm internally whether Individual/Anonymous tracking's moderation bypass is acceptable for their organization
