ConfidenceCheck includes accessibility checks to help you create inclusive emails that reach all recipients. This feature identifies common issues that may prevent people with disabilities from accessing your content, helping you align with WCAG-inspired best practices before you send.
What the Accessibility Check Detects
The accessibility check scans your email for five common accessibility issues:
- Missing alt text - Identifies images without descriptive text for screen readers. Alt text helps visually impaired recipients understand what images show.
- Insufficient color contrast - Flags text and buttons that don't meet WCAG AA standards (4.5:1 contrast ratio). Low contrast makes content difficult to read for people with visual impairments or color blindness.
- Missing semantic headings - Detects when your email lacks proper heading structure (H1, H2, H3). Headings help screen reader users navigate content efficiently.
- H1 heading issues - Identifies emails with missing or multiple H1 headings. Each email should have exactly one H1 heading to provide a clear document structure.
- Insufficient font size - Flags text smaller than 14px. Smaller text can be difficult to read, especially on mobile devices or for people with vision impairments.
How to Run the Accessibility Check
- Open your email in the Email Builder
- Click the Lightning Bolt (⚡) icon at the top right
- Click the play button beside Accessibility
- Review the results as they appear - click any suggestion to jump to that location in your email

Fixing Common Accessibility Issues
Missing alt text:
- Click on the image in your email to open the properties menu on the right
- Add a brief description in the Alt text field that explains what the image shows
- For decorative images, you can mark them as decorative or use empty alt text
Insufficient color contrast:
- Identify the flagged text or button
- Adjust either the text color or background color to increase contrast
- Use a contrast checker tool if needed to verify you meet the 4.5:1 ratio
- Consider using darker text on light backgrounds or lighter text on dark backgrounds
Missing or incorrect heading structure:
- Add headings to break up your content into logical sections
- Use H1 for your main email title (only one per email)
- Use H2 for major sections and H3 for subsections
- Ensure headings follow a logical hierarchy without skipping levels
Insufficient font size:
- Select the flagged text
- Increase the font size to at least 14px in the properties menu on the right
- Consider using 16px or larger for body text to improve readability
Understanding WCAG Compliance
The ConfidenceCheck accessibility feature helps you identify and fix common accessibility issues before sending. However, passing the accessibility check does not guarantee formal WCAG compliance.
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) includes many criteria beyond what ConfidenceCheck tests. For emails requiring formal compliance certification, consider consulting with accessibility experts or conducting additional testing with specialized tools.
