You can recall a ContactMonkey email using Outlook's built-in recall function, if the campaign was sent with Overall Tracking. This removes unread copies from recipient inboxes.
True email recall only works inside a contained Microsoft 365 tenant. Once an email leaves our system over SMTP, no one can delete it from another provider’s mailbox.
Note: We built Deferred Sending within ContactMonkey — a reliable “undo” window before delivery. |
Before You Start
- The email must be unread in the recipient's inbox
- The campaign must be sent with Overall Tracking
- The recall only works for recipients using Outlook on the same Exchange server
- Recipients who have already opened the email will not have their copy removed

What Happens Next
You'll receive a message in your inbox for each recipient indicating:
- Success: The unread email was deleted from their inbox
- Failure: The recipient already read the email, or the recall couldn't be completed
Troubleshooting
The recall option is grayed out
This means the email was sent with Individual tracking and cannot be recalled.
All recalls are failing. What can I do?
Check that your recipients are on the same Exchange server and using Outlook. Recalls don't work for external recipients or those using web-based email clients.
