Browse your team's Canva library and insert designs directly into your emails — without leaving ContactMonkey.
Prerequisites
- The Canva integration must be enabled for your organization (available on all plans).
- A ContactMonkey Admin must connect Canva in Settings before anyone can use it.
Connect Canva (Admin Only)
You only need to do this once for your entire organization.
- Go to Settings → Integrations in ContactMonkey.
- Find the Canva integration tile at the bottom of this page.
- Click Connect and complete the Canva login.
Once connected, all users in your organization can access Canva content immediately. To remove access, return to Settings and click Disconnect in the Canva tile.
Browse Your Canva Content
Once Canva is connected, you can browse your team's Canva library directly in the Email Builder. You can browse folders (including nested folders) and files saved at the root level.
Content is ordered with the most recently created items first. ContactMonkey loads up to 100 files at a time.
Due to a Canva limitation, only the first 3 folders appear initially. Click View more to load additional folders.
Insert a Canva Asset Into an Email
To insert a design from Canva:
- Drag and drop the Canva content block into your email
- Click Add Canva design
Select any supported Canva item to insert it into your email as an image.
Supported in this version:
- Designs and images — inserted as images
- Documents and spreadsheets — inserted as images
- Videos — inserted as a static thumbnail (no video playback)
Not supported in this version:
- Whiteboards and PDFs cannot be exported as images through the Canva API, so they cannot be inserted.
Why Images Are Stored by ContactMonkey
Canva links can expire or change over time. When you insert a Canva asset, ContactMonkey automatically saves a copy on its side, so your image stays accessible in sent emails even if the original Canva asset changes later. This happens in the background with no extra steps required.
Content Visibility
Because the connection is shared, ContactMonkey shows the designs tied to that one connected Canva account to all your ContactMonkey users. Visibility is controlled by which Canva account is connected, not by each individual user or by Canva's own sharing settings.
A design marked private in Canva is private to other Canva users, but it is still available to the Canva account that owns or can access it. ContactMonkey uses that connected account, so the design appears in ContactMonkey for anyone in your organization.
In short, ContactMonkey does not read Canva's per-design privacy or permission settings. It reflects what the connected Canva account can reach.
Limiting Content Visibility
Control visibility through the Canva account you connect. The recommended approach:
- Create or choose a dedicated Canva account (a service or shared account) that can access only the folders and designs you want your team to use in ContactMonkey
- In ContactMonkey Settings, disconnect the current Canva account if a broader one is connected
- Connect the dedicated Canva account instead
- Confirm that only the intended designs now appear when a user adds Canva content to an email
Troubleshooting
