Audience Preview uses AI personas to simulate how different reader segments in your organization will react to a draft email. Run a preview from the Email Builder to validate clarity, tone, relevance, and calls-to-action before you send, and get specific suggestions for improvement.
Prerequisites
- ContactMonkey Enterprise 2.0 plan
- Audience Preview enabled in your account settings by a ContactMonkey Administrator
How to Enable Audience Preview (Admin Only)
Admins must turn on Audience Preview before users can access it.
- Click your name at the top right of the ContactMonkey dashboard
- Click Settings, then Email Settings
- Toggle Audience Preview on
Admins can also disable any default personas that are not relevant to the organization. Disabled personas will not appear in the Email Builder for any user.
Note: If you do not see any AI settings under Email Settings, reach out to your Customer Success Manager to have AI features provisioned for your account.
How to Run an Audience Preview
Run Audience Preview on any draft email to receive AI-generated feedback in seconds.
- Open your draft email in the Email Builder
- Click the people icon (👥) at the top right
- Deselect any personas that do not represent your intended audience. This focuses the feedback on the readers you actually want to reach.
- (Optional) Enter a brief description of the goal of this email in the goal field
- Tip: Adding a goal sharpens the feedback. For example, "Drive RSVPs to the leadership town hall" gives the AI a benchmark to evaluate the email against.
- Click Analyze
Audience Preview typically takes 45 seconds to a minute, though longer emails may take up to 2 minutes. You can close the Audience Preview window and continue working on your email while the analysis runs. The people icon will update when results are available.
The analysis is comprised of three sections:
- Summary — How the persona is likely to perceive the email overall.
- Takeaways & Goals — What the persona understands as the main message and any calls-to-action.
- Suggestions for Improvement — Specific edits to strengthen clarity, tone, or relevance.
Understanding the Default Personas
Audience Preview ships with a default set of personas that represent common reader segments in most organizations:
- IC — A general, average employee perspective
- Executive — A senior leader reading for high-level impact
- Manager — A people leader who may need to cascade the message
- New Hire — A reader still building context about the organization
- Deskless Worker — A frontline employee reading on the go
- Remote Worker — A distributed employee disconnected from in-office cues
To see how a persona is defined, click the eye icon next to the persona name. Reviewing the definition helps you decide which personas to include for a given email.
Creating Custom Personas (Admin Only)
If the default personas do not fully reflect your organization, create your own.
- Click your name at the top right of the ContactMonkey dashboard
- Click Settings, then Email Settings
- Scroll to the Audience Preview section and click New Persona
- Enter the persona's role, context, and any details that shape how they read internal communications
- Save the persona to make it available for future previews
Custom personas appear alongside the defaults in every Audience Preview session.
