Want employees to save an event date before registration opens? Add an Add to calendar button to any ContactMonkey email by linking a calendar file (.ics). Recipients click the button, download the file, and add the event to their own calendar — no registration or landing page required. This works well for save-the-dates, calendar holds, and any event where you aren't collecting RSVPs yet.
Check the date, time, time zone, and location before you export. Recipients see exactly what's in the file.
Add the Calendar Button to an Email
- Open your email in the Email Builder
- Insert a Button content block into your draft
- Select the button and change its text to something clear, such as Add to calendar or Save the date.
- In the button's Properties menu on the right, find the Action section and click Link File.
- Click Upload, select your .ics file, and check the box next to it in File Manager.
- Click Insert to link the file to the button.
When recipients click the button, the .ics file downloads. They open it to add the event to their calendar.
Test the Button Before Sending
Send yourself a test using Send & Track (Web Add-in) or Send now (Web App), then click the button to confirm the file downloads and opens in your calendar.
Some linked files don't open in the Email Builder preview, so always test from a received email. Check the button on both desktop and mobile, since mobile devices can handle the .ics download differently.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Recipients aren't sure what to do after clicking the button.
Solution: Add a short line near the button, such as: "Click the button, then open the downloaded file to add this event to your calendar."
