In the email builder, you can use AI to generate a subject line and preheader text based on the content of your email. See below for step by step instructions on how to generate a subject line and preheader text using AI in ContactMonkey's email builder.
What Is Preheader Text?
Email preheader text is the summary text that follows a subject line when the email is viewed in an inbox. In many cases, it's used to provide a short summary of the email, and is typically one sentence long.
How Can I Use AI To Generate A Subject Line And Preheader Text?
Log into ContactMonkey and either create a new email or click into an existing email to launch ContactMonkey's Email Builder.
Once in the Email Builder, click into Settings to access the Optional Properties section of the Email Builder.
You will now have the option to edit this email's subject line or preheader text directly in the Email Builder. If you would like to generate a subject line or preheader text using AI, click on the "wand" icon to bring up a new modal prompting you to generate a subject line and preheader text using AI.
After you have clicked on the AI "wand" you will have the option to generate either the subject line or preheader text using the AI functionality (or both).
In the new modal that opens, by default, an AI generated subject line and preheader text will be available for you to apply to this email in the Native Tone of voice. You can regenerate the subject line and preheader text in a different Tone of voice by selecting a different tone from the dropdown menu and clicking the Regenerate All buton.
You can select from up to 8 tones of voice (Native, Informal, Persuasive, Descriptive, Visual, Humorous, Narrative, and Formal). More information on each tone can be found in a later section in this article.
Once you have applied your AI generated subject line and/or preheader text, you can now use your email template as your normally would. Depending on how you send emails with ContactMonkey, you will be prompted again to apply the AI generated subject line and/or preheader text. See below for the how you will be prompted again to apply your AI generate subject line and/or preheader text if you currently use Gmail Dashboard Sending, Outlook Dashboard Sending, or our Outlook plugin.
Gmail Dashboard Sending
If you use Gmail Dashboard Sending in ContactMonkey, you will be prompted with the below in the Compose & Send section of ContactMonkey once you have selected an email to send to that has a subject line and/or preheader text that was set from within the Email Builder.
After you Apply the subject line and/or preheader text, you will still have the opportunity to modify both before your email is sent.
Outlook Dashboard Sending
If you use Outlook Dashboard Sending in ContactMonkey, you will be prompted with the below in the Compose section of ContactMonkey once you have selected an email to send to that has a subject line and/or preheader text that was set from within the Email Builder.
Similar to Gmail Dashboard Sending, you will still have the opportunity to modify both the subject line and/or the preheader text for this email before you send your email.
Outlook Plugin (Web Add-in)
If you use our Outlook Plugin (Web Add-in) you will proceed as normal with adding an email template from ContactMonkey into your Outlook. When you add in a template that has a subject line and/or preheader text that was set from within the Email Builder, you will be prompted with the below modal.
Once you click Apply, you will still be able to modify your email subject line as normal. However, if you wish to modify the email's preheader, you will need to launch the email builder again for that specific email and follow the above instructions to modify the preheader that you previously set. Afterwards, you will need to compose a new email again in your Outlook for the new Preheader text to be applied.
