Google Workspace's image proxy security feature prevents ContactMonkey from tracking your email recipients' actual locations. Instead, all opens appear to come from Google's proxy server location. Add ContactMonkey to your image URL proxy allowlist to receive accurate location data.
Prerequisites
- Google Workspace Administrator access
- ContactMonkey tracking enabled in your account
Add ContactMonkey to Your Image URL Proxy Allowlist
Your Google Workspace Administrator needs to follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Google Admin console with an administrator account
- Go to Menu → Apps → Google Workspace → Gmail
- Click End User Access
- Select your top-level organization from the left sidebar
- Scroll down to the Image URL proxy allowlist section
- Enter
https://contactmonkey.com/in the allowlist patterns field - Click Save at the bottom of the page
You can review configuration changes in the Admin console audit log.
What Happens After Configuration
Once ContactMonkey is added to the allowlist, your tracking reports will show recipients' actual geographic locations instead of Google's proxy server location. This applies to all emails sent after the configuration is complete.
Troubleshooting
Still seeing proxy server locations?
- Verify the URL was entered exactly as shown:
https://contactmonkey.com/ - Confirm changes were saved at the organization level, not a sub-organization
- Allow up to 24 hours for changes to propagate across Google's systems
- Check that you're viewing emails sent after the configuration was completed
