The Email Builder supports both GIPHY integration and custom GIF uploads to enhance your email content. This guide covers the two primary methods for adding animated GIFs to your emails.
Method 1: Using GIPHY Integration
- In the Email Builder, format your email and add a new row
- Drag the GIF content block into your row
- Click Search for gifs with GIPHY
- Use the search bar to find GIFs that match your theme or message
- Click your preferred GIF to insert it into your email
The GIPHY integration ensures full compatibility across email clients, including Outlook animation support.

Method 2: Uploading Custom GIFs
- Drag an Image content block into your email
- Click Browse → Upload to add your GIF file
- Select your uploaded GIF and click Insert
- More information on creating custom GIFs can be found here
Troubleshooting
If GIFs aren't animating when you preview or receive emails, the issue is typically related to email client settings or limitations.
Enable GIF Animation in Outlook
For New Outlook
- Click the gear icon at the top right
- Select Mail and scroll to the bottom of the Layout section
- Select Show Animations in the message list
- Click Save
For Classic Outlook:
- Click File → Options → Advanced
- Under the Display section, check Play animated GIFs
Alternative: View the email in a web browser instead of the desktop Outlook client to see GIF animations.
Note: Some custom GIFs may not animate properly in the Email Builder preview. If you encounter animation issues, click here.
Email Client Limitations
GIF animation support varies by email client. Be aware of these limitations when using GIFs in your campaigns:
Supported Clients
- Office 365 (with settings enabled)
- Gmail
- Outlook mobile app
Limited Support
- Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019 will display only the first frame of the GIF. Recipients must open the email in a browser to see the animation.
Animation Behavior
- Office 365: GIFs loop only 3 times, then pause. A Play button appears on the image—clicking it plays the animation 3 more times.
- Other supported clients: Animation behavior varies by platform.
