ContactMonkey supports videos hosted on private servers or company intranets, not just public platforms like YouTube and Vimeo. Because ContactMonkey can't auto-generate a preview for private videos, you'll provide your own thumbnail image during setup.
Before You Start
- The video must have a direct URL that your recipients can open from their email (for example, a SharePoint or Panopto link accessible inside your corporate network or VPN)
- You'll need a thumbnail image saved to your device — this is the static preview image recipients see and click to play the video
Step 1: Create a Video Thumbnail
Capture a screenshot of your video to use as the thumbnail image. Most devices include built-in screenshot tools:
- Windows: Use Snipping Tool
-
Mac: Press
Shift+Command+4
Save the file somewhere easy to find — you'll upload it in the next step.
Step 2: Add the Video to Your Email
- In the Email Builder, insert the Video content block into your email draft
- Click Insert a video
- Paste your private video URL into the Video URL field
- Click the upload icon and select the thumbnail you created
Step 3: Customize the Appearance (Optional)
- Add a title
- Change the play icon's shape, color, and size so it stands out against your thumbnail
Tip: Choose a play icon color that contrasts with your thumbnail. A white play icon on a dark thumbnail (or vice versa) is easiest for recipients to spot.
