You can add up to 500 individual email addresses directly in the To field when sending ContactMonkey emails. This works the same way as a regular Outlook email, making it perfect for quick sends to smaller groups.
Important privacy feature: When you add recipients to the To field with ContactMonkey, it automatically functions as BCC. Recipients will not see each other's email addresses.
When to Use This Method
Use individual email addresses in the To field when you're:
- Sending to fewer than 500 recipients
- Emailing a one-time group without an existing distribution list
- Selecting specific individuals manually
- Sending a quick communication without needing a CSV file
How to Add Individual Emails
- Open Outlook and create a new message
- Open the ContactMonkey Add-in
- Type out or paste email addresses directly in the To field (separate with semicolons or commas)
- Press
Ctrl+Kto validate all email addresses against your Outlook address book - Configure your ContactMonkey settings (tracking, subject line, etc.)
- Click Send & Track
For Larger Recipient Lists (500+ Recipients)
If you need to reach 500 or more recipients, use one of these methods instead:
CSV Upload: Upload a spreadsheet with up to 10,000 email addresses. This method also allows you to include custom merge fields for personalization and is ideal for one-time bulk sends. Learn more here.
Distribution Lists: Use your existing Outlook distribution lists. These integrate seamlessly with ContactMonkey and simplify recipient management for recurring sends. Learn more here.
List Management: Organize, sync, and maintain recipient lists without uploading CSVs for each send. Contact your Customer Success Manager to enable this feature. Learn more here.
Troubleshooting
Email addresses aren't appearing correctly after pasting
Check that:
- Email addresses are separated by semicolons or commas
- Each address includes a domain (example: name@company.com)
- There are no extra spaces before or after addresses
- You've pressed
Ctrl+Kto validate all addresses
Recipients can see each other's email addresses
This happens when you use Outlook's native send button instead of the Send & Track button. Always use the latter in the ContactMonkey Add-in to ensure the To field functions as BCC.
I'm getting validation errors for some addresses
Ctrl + K validates addresses against your Outlook address book. If an address fails validation:
- Verify the email address is spelled correctly
- Check that the domain is valid
- Ensure the address is formatted as name@company.com
- Try adding the contact to your Outlook address book first
